ReplyDeletemy reaction to the play is that it was OK. I say this because i didn't understand what was going on in some parts. The reflection i had to the play is that i though it was going to be like a comedy type thing. It had some comedy parts in ti but not what i was expecting. my respond to the the play is that why did he had to give up his role as a mayor to protect a house that have been there for a really long time?
I really liked The Performance. It was a good experience and finally got to see some of our FM students.

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the play it was really cool and sometimes made me mad too. The reason it made me mad was because of how the guy with the glasses was always greedy with money and only cared about himself. I thought the actors did an amazing job with their acting and i would reccomend people to see this play. It can make you mad, angry, or even sad but over all it was good.

ReplyDeletewell my reaction to the play is it was pretty good i enjoyed it for the most part.My reflection to the play is that although i thought the play was going to be boring it proved to be rather entertaining. My response to the play is why did the guy give up what he really wanted and his plan to better the community just for a old raggedy house.

I really liked play, I think because I'm a theater person I picked up on things that really brought the whole thing together for me. I loved the way that he used Tiger Woods and Martin Luther King Jr especially since this was written before the whole Tiger Woods scandal and that just really added some new light to it too.

ReplyDeletethis is dwayne and i though the play was good i really enjoyed it and some of the highlights for to me was how the mayor found out that was the old guy was a cusin of his and that his farther was paying for the house because he believed in family
Overall I thought that the play touched upon a lot of current issues and I enjoyed it. I thought the relationship between Harmond and Roosevelt was interesting because between the two men they had very different views of what was right and wrong and also how they should come about making money. This created hostility towards the end and it seemed as if there was some intra-racism between the two.

ReplyDeleteI thought that the play brought up really interesting dynamics between those of varying socio-economic statuses. I thought it was neat how two of the men had attended the name grade school, yet they pursued very different lifestyles as adults. It seemed to highlight the fact that each individual had the potential to become successful, the only difference being the level of motivation each person had.
I enjoyed the play but at some points it was hard to understand exactly what they were talking about and slightly boring, there was not a lot of comedic relief. It was nice to see that the mayor protected what he believed in even though it might now have been what roosevelt or his wife wanted. He stood strongly next to his opinions and trusted what was fair.
ReplyDeleteThe play was not really what I expected, but it was better because of that in some ways. I thought it would end up highlighting black and white racial struggles, but instead it used race as an instrument of conflict within only the black community. It gets us thinking about where the distinctions of race actually begin- cultural context. We're not born with the knowledge of racial distinctions, it's the social struggles that define it in money, circumstance and others things that eventually translate as stereotypes. Race is subjective.
ReplyDeleteI was not sure what to expect when going to the play because I did not quite know what it was about. I was surprised that the play was less about racial differences and more about class differences. I enjoyed it because we hadn't talked much about that in class and it was a new perspective. The social issues shown in the play were very eye opening and showed the contraversy between money and morals.
ReplyDeletehi im Andrew and i thought that the play was very interesting and i thought they were strong characters who played the roles well and gave emotions to their beliefs. however i thought the play ran a little long and it was difficult to fallow without a change in scenery
ReplyDeleteI liked the play and thought they did a good job playing the roles of their characters, but it could have been a little shorter and not so drawn out. It was hard to understand some of the points they were trying to get across but also really made me think about the issues of race that they brought up.
ReplyDeleteI was unfortunately not able to see the play, but I read another one of August Wilson's plays for English class, called Fences. Fences was a play that dealt with a lot of the same issues as Radio Golf. I think August Wilson is good at writing plays about the same issues because he is able to call attention to a topic by turning them into a character's personal issues. This then makes the reader have an emotional connection to the character through knowing what it's like to be in the situation, or just knowing that it must not be a good situation to go through.
ReplyDeleteThe play in my opinion, was very unusual. I didn't really think too much about the race aspect until towards the end, when the painter dude talked about the "black people that kissed up to white people." At that point, I started to think of the two different personalities of the main characters. One was loyal and moralistic, while the other played the race card, saying that the media needed a "black face." I also enjoyed the two role models set up by each person. Tiger Woods and Martin Luther King Jr. They showed kind of the characteristics between the two main characters.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the acting in the play. I thought the actors did a great job and the play itself sent a positive message. The play really made me think. It was a little bit long, but overall I liked it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with many who said that the play was not what they expected. It was hard to understand exactly what they were talking about in many parts and started to drag on in some scenes. I also liked how the mayor stood by what he believed in and didn't give into what others wanted him to do. I also wanted to refer back to what we talked about in class and how there were only a few characters acting in the play. I thought that was very interesting and what might have made it a little boring because usually when you watch a play there are many more characters and different people playing each role.
