  1. Where I’m from
    By: Tyler Barnes
I am from flats from Nike and Addidas
I am from the hot days after school at the Nottingham track
I am from Saturday morning practices and Sunday afternoon football games with JJ and Brian
I am from the stubborness and persistence of “ just do it,” and “ don’t let anyone change
who you are cause they can never be you better than you can.”
I am from the Baptist church attending every Sunday and Wednesday .
I’m from Savanna and fried chicken with macaroni and cheese , from the big brawl in my
Grandmother’s front yard when we ruined her new garden.
I am from an alabaster box withblack and white and colored pictures of my grandmother and all
the time we spent with her,
I am from the first ipod I ever got with all the pictures of my first track season. I am from the
first pigskin I ever got and it holds all the different games where I used it to beat my brother In
the front yard repeatedly , these things I would never give up because they are me.

  2. I am from my grandparent’s warmth & my healthy Apple iPhone & iPad.

I am from the fancy neighborhoods and high expectation where parents expect nothing less than the best.

I am from the fried chicken & Mac & Cheese & learning about the birds and the bee’s.

I am from a big family who attends church every Sunday and believes that God is the only way.

I am from a family that spends every holiday together, eating and laughing and trying to avoid lighting any feathers.

I am from it’s the way you look, the way you smell, & the way you act & from BOY you better give me back my hat says my grandfather.

I am from Christianity where faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen and believing that God works in mysterious ways.

I am from Syracuse NY but have an attitude of Manhattan NY living on 27th St & Broadway…

I am from Family Pictures and big cook outs and occasionally playing monopoly.

That’s right its me the only one that could ever be…. Jaymar Mike-Fulton

  3. I am from a small town, from my grandmother's backyard.
I am from the smell of freshly baked bread,
from the neighborhood of laughing children, and the taste of sweet chocolate.
I am from Kosova, a place that I call home.
But now i am from the chance of opportunities, the place were dreams come true.
I am from a small apartment in the city, somewhere i thought id never be.
I am from a house of two older sisters, always trying to find my own path.
I am from a loving and secure family, that will always be there for me.
I am from two different worlds,
that have made me who i am today. -Blerta Imeri

  4. I am from the land of a thousand hills and from the land of freedom
two places that hold a big part in my heart
I am from the warmth of a mothers love and the security of bieng the youngest of 9 kids
I am from the little girl growing up wanting to be different from her brothers and sisters, not wanting to be called "little Ornella" or Pierrot's, Charles, steve's, Narcisse's, Didier's, Olivier's, or yvonne's liitle sister
I am from the communtiy of book lovers, tree huggers, and fame wanters just wanting to make it to the big life
I am from the longing of wanting to go back to my true home, a place I have no idea about other than it's where I belong, Where I'm from, and where I'm gunna be.

  5. I am from my mothers womb, that kept me warm when I was cold..
I am from two sides which people despise in there eyes
Being white and black is the story of my life
Judged by the worse and accepted from the best
I stand strong with-thin the strength my family gave me
I never regret just mistakes made..

But how can I correct the future when I can't let go of the last
    Learning to forget and forgive
I must let love take it's course...
So I open my heart and watch it glow in the dark
I am from the depths of all obstacles, winning it all and being on top
I am the person you love to talk to when your feeling low...
Bring you up when your down...
    Never speak before I listen...
Iaaawwwwww am your best friend, your sister, your one and only....
    I am me
Take me or leave me either way
    I will still be me

  6. Who Am I?

    Who am I-
A poet who expresses himself through words.

    Why? Why, you say?
Because it makes me powerful, above the influence.

    I am from a town where violence is always of the essence;
Where drug dealers, crackheads, and prostitutes run the streets looking for a
    dream,
which will only trap them in more misery.

    Who Am I?
I am the past, the future, the now
Once was called dirt, now breathes through sunny days, trying to escape
all of the stereotypes thrown at me.

For, In life, there are two types of people,
    real or fake-which are you?

I am a Leader; a strong, powerful man, with my head on straight,
trying to make the world a better place.

My life is like a movie clip,
    and somehow it seems like I'm stuck in a dream;
it's like the more I fight to get out, the more it keeps me trapped in.
    But now, I'm done
    It's time to wake up.

So now, awake, staring myself in the mirror
    Who am I?
    I am me-above the influence.

  7. WHERE I AM FROM?
I am from a country of civil war.
Where my family has been chased away from place to place by others because of our language.
I am from a family of farmers.
I am from a family that follows rules, because they guide you to a better life.
I am from a country of dry land and soccer field in Africa.
Where you are told to get a different hobby,
To the grass and turf field of Nottingham High School.
I am from a country with no light but people never sleep,
Because sleep will not get you food for the next day.
I am from a family that doesn’t have an education background,
Only my two brothers and I will be the first to ever go to college.
I am from a mother who has never given up on us because she wants the best for us.
I am from a family of lost and found. Where war has taken some.
I am from a family that had to separate and live 4,679.84 miles away from each other.
I am from a refugee camp in Guinea West Africa, where I had to share a two bedroom house with 6 people.
I am from Africa, where people call it the mother land.

  8. I am from life and from love.
I am from jazz and from classical.

I am from reality, where I am my own boss yet
I am still in the position to recognize the needs of others.
From my mother the teacher teacher and my father the architect.

I am from pistachios in the toes of our Christmas stockings and
Lighting Chanukah candles while wrapping our holiday gifts together.

I am from the hippies and the hipsters, the artists and the art appreciators.
I am from the French language, the Lebanese food, and the American soil.

I am a mix of old and new.

I am from my ability to learn and from my ability to educate.
I am from the age of the internet and all of what it has to offer.

I am from the old stock family; a hearty mix of traditions with
More than enough room for new ones to fit in.

I am from “Grandma and Grandpa” as much
As I am from “Granddad and Nana.”

I am the culmination of my parts:

    Musician
    Human
    Artist
    Me

  9. "Where I'm from"

I am from the little crocodile island
Where sugar cane spices up the mood
I am from the little yellow house in the middle of the street
Where it cannot be higher, when the street its named High.
I am from the rose that grows in my grandmothers grave
Where she would call me "little Yadi, love who you are"
I am from the only God I believe in
Where he taught me to love chocolate and my life.
I am from the old closet that smells like rotten eggs
Where my old dolls stay in place
From the brown eyes of my mother and the hair of my father.
I am from the place I first broke my heart
Where my friends mean the world to me
From the same mango smell you taste in "Body Works"
From my long nails with infinite color.
I am from "Beauty and the Beast"
From "Can you feel the love tonight?" playing in my background of life
Where no regrets can reach my flight
I am from my own mistakes
Where they teach me to learn and grow again.

  10. Where I'm from
    By; Yahumara Aguirre

I am from the waves of coco near the clouds
Where tradition of familia has brought laughter
The smell of the salt is always around always
Reminding me of home and my "papi"
I am from the tourism area in Varadero where
People come and go, drink and laugh
I am from my mother and my mother only
We are the same mulata girls in the family
I represent myself as a Jazz, Opera, and Salsa girl
Where nothing is far better knowing that
I am proud to be Matanzeras but a privilege to be a Cuban
